Marcy Guevara’s motto is the same as mine: ‘style has no size’

10 questions to Marcy Guevara…

1. What do you do for a living?
I am a Contributing Editor for Marie Claire Magazine and host of their show on Hello Style based on the column, “Big Girl in a Skinny World”

2. For how long you are working for Big girl in a skinny world, Marie Claire?
I was cast in February to host the show after having hosted different shows online for the plus-size woman. I understand what women who want to be stylish and sexy are going through when trying to fit in the standard sizes offered in most stores. I aim to be their voice, their role-model, friend and listening ear.

3. Are you happy with yourself, your body, your size? Do you take care of yourself? Eat healthy, exercise?
I accept myself for who I am and how I was built. It is my goal to healthy, happy and whole. Eating healthy and exercising are priorities. I enjoy walking my dog everyday and occasionally splurge on a rich dessert but I really do try to be as balanced and healthy as possible by limiting alcohol and sweets. Being happy is so relative. I think there are many factors that contribute to this. I have a wonderful family, fiancé, and great friends. Each day is a gift that I try to use to it’s greatest potential and reach my career goals. Being able to create compelling content for plus-size women is a dream come true because I get to use my shape and curves to educate and help women feel confident. It is my main concern that women feel great in the skin they’re in.

4. Where do you buy your clothes? Which shops? Which webshops? I love Macy’s because I am an instant gratification person—they carry great lines like Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Donna Morgan and Adrianna Pappel. I love being able to go shopping and try things on and leave with bags, so Lane Bryant and Ashley Stewart are also faves. Online, I am obsessed with Modcloth, Eshakti, & Carmakoma.

5. Which magazines do you read or pick up regularly?
Of course, I have been a subscriber to Marie Claire for years. I love Cosmo too, to spice things up. I get a lot of my tips from blogs like manrepeller.com and refinery29. My guilty pleasure is US Weekly, but if I am feeling classy, I will pick up People from time to time.

6. Who is or are your style icons? Or describe your style : I definitely have a very eclectic style, I love anything from California casual-chic to super sleek leather. This video is a perfect explanation of my style inspirations:

7. Who’s your favorite designer? OOOH! This is a tough one because it is difficult to choose between straight and plus, ready to wear and couture, etc. I would have to say that if I were going to the Oscar’s I would die to be dressed by Marchesa. I love Stella McCartney and Lanvin as well. For certain things I think Louis Vuitton is classic, I mean you can’t really go wrong with LV.

8. Have you ever had to deal with negativity because of your size? Growing up there where phases where I was more self-conscious than others, but for the most part I have always been fairly confident. At times I attributed certain things to my weight, but have ultimately realized that everything happens for a reason, you can’t buy happiness and what you THINK will make you happy may do the exact opposite.

9. What advice would you give to young girls who are insecure about their body or size? Life is too short to worry about the small things. Love yourself and your body. Respect it, but good things in it (and on it) ☺ Don’t waste time hating yourself…nothing will change. If you truly want to see change in yourself start doing something different, whether it is eating better, working out, or just paying a little more attention to grooming and dress. Work with what you’ve got, no matter your size, rock the runway that is your life.

10. Your motto is the same as mine: style has no size. Where did you get it from? Explain this motto!
I really believe in being comfortable in the “skin you’re in”. No matter what your size, you deserve to feel beautiful and are worthy of lovely things. I think that “style has no size” is a perfect way to describe the “Big Girl in a Skinny World” series. Nicolette is all about defying the rules and making yourself happy in your style. Marie Claire, as a magazine, is so supportive of this mission and in women feeling amazing and empowered that “style has no size” just seemed perfect. I can’t pinpoint the moment to came to me, but I can only imagine from the saturation of magazines, movies, music and pop culture it popped out in some late night brainstorm session.
