Alexander McQueen: a big step for size acceptance

Betsy Teske

Remember I wrote about what happened in NYC, during fashion week? There were many shows with models in sizes 40/42/44 EU? And I also said, what will Milan and Paris do? Well, I was in Milan for the Marina Rinaldi event. But no runways with curvy/plus size models! And guess what happened yesterday?

“A small step for the fashion industry, a big step for size acceptance!”

Yes…. tears in my eyes.. Alexander McQueen‘s show was amazing and even more fantastic, when I realised Betsy Teske rocked this catwalk! Betsy, a Dutch 1,78 tall size 42/44 model…. omg omg!!! She is with Milk and Linda Models. And also Eline Lykke (also a size 42/44 EU) from Norway. So happy for them, and big applause for Sarah Burton and her team of Alexander McQueen. Well done! The first designer in Paris and probably the only one. The first who shows 2 models in this size, next to the other models in sizes 34/36 EU, next to gorgeous coloured models. It was not a freak show, no…. this was a serious runway!

Eline Lykke

“When I found out it was for Alexander McQueen, a designer I absolutely love, I cried from joy,” Eline Lykke told Vogue. “I was, and still [am], so overjoyed.”

You know? I have told so many times here on SHNS, in interviews… this is how I see the future runway! At least 1 or 2 models in sizes 42/44 EU will on the catwalk next to the straight size models. And this is what happened last night! “A small step for the fashion industry, a big step for size acceptance!”

And beside size, we saw many gorgeous coloured models on this catwalk!
