Seeing this gorgeous inbetweenie model Naomi Shimada more and more these days! Asos, Simply Be and, of course, many many other things! And I just discovered her own blog: naomishimada. She’s a beautiful mix: her father is Japanese and her mother Dutch/Canadian/English/Irish. So proud, she’s having some Dutch blood as well! Naomi says: “Being a ‘plus size’ model I do see a gap in the market of what’s missing for women of a bigger size. Would maybe love to design a small concept line one day! The average size in the UK is a 16! The high street is screaming out for a cooler, youthful brand to supply the gap.” And I totally agree: that gap is the forgotten group: the inbetweenies!
Just love this shoot, Naomi Shimada, photography by Rachell Smith.
Proud of inbetweenie, blogger and designer Mandy Fierens. She wants to start her own label Zaftig with your help! “Zaftig is a clothing company for women sizes 10 (40 EU) and above. Help me bring on additional designers to create two other dress options!” Essentially, Zaftig will have something for every women that is a size 10 and above. Mandy: “I read complaints from women who want to dress fashion forward but are forced into plus size clothing brands that their mothers wear.”
With this last thing, I just can confirm… time for fashion clothes for women above size 10 (40 EU).

Size diversity news! The most popular magazine of Belgium, Flair is going to show more larger sizes in their magazine! Our neighbours are showing some guts to start this size revolution! And it’s about time.
Editor Tine Trappers: ‘Our readers know that overweight and obese are not good, but healthy is the new sexy’.
No, normal women in magazines doesn’t work, Brigitte Magazine showed that. But models in size diversity will work. I really believe in this! Fashion is about dreams & illusion and yes, it CAN be in different sizes. They use the slogan: f*ck the ideal sizes! But what is ideal? I would have said: time for size diversity! So Dutch Flair, are you going to follow?
Dutch inbetweenie Carola Bremmer (size 40-42) from Ego’s Models on the cover.
A few weeks ago I showed you the great pictures of Models1, showing their inbetweenies. Now there’s an article in LOOK magazine: ‘It looks like the fashion-industry is finally acknowledging that beauty can come in any dress size’. Beauty has no size! Style has no size!
One of my favorite designers, Sonia Rykiel has been honoured twice for her contribution to fashion. She received two fashion awards on Tuesday. The designer was honoured with the ‘Grande Médaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris’ and the ‘Insignes de Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres’. Pierre Bergé, a famous French fashion magnate said: “And not to speak to idle women, only rich women, but active women, everyday women.” Sonia Rykiel has been in fashion for 40 years.
