Fabulous 50’s

Saturday I visited Fabulous Fifties Fashion Exhibition at the Gemeente Museum in The Hague. I always loved the 50’s: their fashion, Hollywood, pin up, etc. It feels like going back in time. Seeing the clothes on mannequins and ‘Mad Men’ coming to life.

Creating an illusion in the 50’s. Our image of the 50’s is heavily influenced by the fashion magazines and advertising in that period. They projected a highly idealized image that was in sharp contrast to the realities of life. Maybe the illusion of fashion started over here? And we still have to deal with this…

Marilyn Monroe was at the pin up section. And a small documentary as video.

A real ‘Mad Men’ setting…

It was very popular to make ‘your own designer’ clothes by patterns.

My own small movie of the exhibition..
